entry 01 · Fourth of July

Had a fairly low-key Fourth of July this year - grabbed a bloody mary, slurped down some oysters, then headed to an evening show at The Alabama Music Box with my camera in tow.

The Fuckless and Galactic Engineers put on a really good show.

The Fuckless strikes me as true performance art, mixing upbeat and avant-garde punk-rock influenced musical styling with a deranged lead performance and lyrics drenched in social commentary.

Galactic Engineers were visiting from Birmingham, AL. I'd never heard of them, so I had no idea what to expect - and was pleasantly surprised. Psychedelic, grooving, churning and evocative. A two- piece band, lead singer on guitar and a drummer. The guitarist displayed a masterful use of effects pedals to create songs that felt far more lush and varied than you'd expect from a band with such a simple set-up.
